A Few of My Favorite Things
The 2018 summer heat has finally arrived and with it comes many fun things and unpleasantries. I want to share with you how I survive the summer heat with a few of my top items!
Facial Favs
1- Peony Plumping Facial Mist by Beauty Counter
I spray this on my face on days that I go makeup free, which is 90% of the time. Its hydrating properties leave my skin fresh without feeling oily. It feels amazing when I've been out in the sun too long... which is most days, and if you're like me, you burn as soon as the sun touches you. Vampire Skin. Be sure to check if anyone you know sells Beauty Counter in your area!
2- All Nighter Setting Spray by Urban Decay
I swear by this!! My makeup stays on ALL. DAY. LONG. Even if I have been working in the yard, playing in the sun with the kids, taking a nap, my makeup doesn't budge. Plus it gives a nice finish-- not oily, not too matte. I typically buy the travel size because I like the smaller packaging.
3- Good Morning Honey Silk Facial Serum by Hey Honey
Like BUTTER for the skin! Once you put this on, you will know exactly what I am talking about. I apply this with my foundation. I literally squeeze a drop of my foundation (It Cosmetics CC Cream) on the tips on my fingers and then an equal amount of facial serum and mix the two together before applying to my skin with my fingertips. It makes a full coverage foundation go on flawlessly without being cake-y and heavy. It is also amazing to put on your skin if you have been out in the sun too long!
4- Photo Finish Primerizer by Smashbox
The last of my facial favs, this makeup primer has been a go-to since this winter, when my skin was in desperate need of moisture! It has transitioned into the spring and summer heat without any problems! The Hyaluronic acid in the formula holds water within the skin to prevent moisture loss, leaving your skin nice and dewy without feeling oily. This is the very first thing I apply when doing my makeup, to lock in moisture all day long.
5- Black Opium Eau de Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent
THIS. SMELLS. LIKE. HEAVEN. Or at least what I'd imagine heaven to smell like ;) Fragrance notes of vanilla bean, white flowers and black coffee. How could you go wrong with those smells!? I always go for the PARFUM as oppose to the Perfume, because the scent lasts longer, hence the higher price tag. This is one of the more expensive scents I have ever purchased, but its worth every penny. The last perfume I was this in love with was sadly discontinued, I hope and pray this one sticks around for a very long time.
6- Spiked Sparkling Water
Yep, you read that correctly! There is nothing better than a crisp beverage in the hot afternoon. I may be drinking one as I type this... you will never know ;) So many companies are getting on board with this because no woman wants to work her butt off to get a summer body, only to blow it on one alcoholic drink. Enter the practically no sugar, no carb beverage just for us! Winner winner, chicken dinner. Please Drink Responsibly-- I would never encourage too much fun ;)
7- Bug Spray by The Honest Company
One of the unpleasant things in the summer months are the mosquitoes! My children get eaten by them! And little Bode swells like none other. Yes I know I can make my own essential oil bug spray, that's natural for my kiddos, but sometimes I just like to buy things and not have to think about making everything. Enter this bug spray! Smells great, works great, and I feel great about putting it on my kids! You have to get your hands on it fast though, because I swear it's always sold out. I stocked up already!
When I grow up, I want to be as cool as Joanna Gaines. She is basically the Martha Stewart of our day, without the criminal record. Sorry, Martha, I had go there ;) I love you too! Basically, delicious recipes and amazing decorating tips, as well as real life questions and answers. I have every other page ear-marked because I love everything in it.
9- The Wrap Dress Turned Duster
I can't get enough of this look for summer! Bring on the flowers, the big sunglasses, the big hat, looks great with shorts, jeans, heels, flats, sandals, dress-up, dress-down, everything. This particular one I wore as the dress for my cousin's wedding, but now, I will be sporting it as a duster that I can take right into fall if I so desire!
The last of my favorite things for this summer is my magnetic calendar I have on my fridge. It is the command center of the house, where everything gets scheduled. It is right there where my husband and I can see it every time we open the fridge. No more scheduling conflicts because one of us forgot to tell the other about something coming up. Plus, I like that I can get all cutesy with colors and design.
